The RX7 Unicorn is ready for saturday’s Fun2Drive Winter Jam! Snow drifting all day long! Hopefully the rotary handles the cold weather of Nagano with no problem lol... Would suck to blow an engine 300km away from home :)

The R8 has a blown head gasket so it won’t be driven for a few more weeks. It’s not yet registered in Japan also.It also has an open dif, which would suck to drift around in the snow :)

It’s the 12a Turbo unicorn, also tuned by RE-Amemiya. Less than 2000 produced in Japan only. The rarest of all RX7 :)

It is also technically a SA22C since it is a Japanese car ;)

Regular FBs are a lot better in term of daily drivability than mine. If you’re a broke college student, I’m not sure I’d recommend one though... You won’t see your gas consumption go down to 7mpg like me, but you will still struggle maintaining it over 20mpg for sure...

Honestly, I’d be buying it mostly to work on. I’m really missing working on stuff while I’m away at school. It’d be cool to be able to park a FB beside my S13 and build a decent rotary motor for it!

Well I can’t recommend the 12a turbo enough really... They are very expensive and you’d have to get one shipped from Japan, but bolt on to regular 12a mounts. They are 165hp stock, but easily brought up to 180/190 with a few tweaks and upgrades to 220hp with an intercooler. There is barely any turbo lag also, which is crazy for an engine from the 80's.

Why not just buy a motor. Tear it down rebuild it. You have something to ticket with, that won’t take up more than a corner of your bedroom.

I was about to say "JDM as FUCK" but then I remembered that you are actually in Japan so that is kind of silly. Anyways, that got me thinking. Is there any sort of "USDM as FUCK" that goes on in Japan? Basically people idolizing USDM cars for some reason.

lol believe it or not but yes.

At a cars and coffee a few months ago, one guy had exchanged all his GT86 branded parts for FRS ones from a friend of his in Hawaii haha. It was really funny to see :)

Really nice guy but I didn’t understand the point of that... But overall, people don’t care about USDM cars unless they are japanese rednecks, aka “yanki” (not related with yankees lol)

Japanese rednecks? That sounds really hilarious. Are they “rednecks” just in the general sense that they drive trucks in the mud and have plenty of “hold my beer” moments, or are they hilarious caricatures of US rednecks?

And that FRS story sounds hilarious. That is exactly what I was thinking of. I am happy that the world works that way lol.

Nah they are more like badasses wannabes... with no credibility lol. Most start as bosozoku during their youth, then move on to being hosto in girls bars and drive GMC Yukon in the middle of Tokyo lol.

They usually come from rather poor families and don’t have much education. They also tend to love anything American which equals to “cool” for them :)

That’s a good idea for next year. Right now in a dorm with shared bedrooms so space is at a premium. Although next year I’ll have much more room so I might just rebuild a motor...

That sounds exactly like the “OMG ITS JDM” crowd in the US. They will love anything just because it is Japanese, regardless of its actual merits. And often this leads to the “ricer” crowd who do not exactly have much money or education either lol.

It is actually quite interesting how that actually happens in both places! Says something about human nature I suppose.
